Your roof is one of the most exposed parts of your home—constantly under sun, rain, wind, tree-shade, mould and moss. A dirty or neglected roof can:
At Ultra Exterior Cleaning we believe a clean roof isn’t just cosmetic — it’s good maintenance. We combine specialist techniques (soft washing + pressure cleaning) to safely restore your roof so it looks great and lasts longer.
We tailor our approach depending on roof material, pitch, exposure and condition. Below is an overview of how we treat different roof types — and how we decide whether soft washing or pressure cleaning (or a combination) is best.
Colourbond
These are common across Melbourne & Mornington Peninsula. They’re durable, but can still accumulate mould, moss and salt-air residue (especially near bayside areas). A low-pressure surface clean + safe chemical treatment will remove contaminants without damaging paint or seams.
Terracotta
These have a porous surface and can trap moss, lichen, bird droppings and leaf debris. Cleaning must be done gently so as not to crack or dislodge tiles. Soft-wash methods are often preferred, high pressure can risk damage.
Tile roofs
Similar to terracotta in many ways, cleaning involves removing moss/algae growth and repainting or re-sealing if required. Our team inspects condition, performs gentle wash, clears valleys and ensures the result is tidy and water-running correctly.
Slate, heritage or specialty roofs
If you have heritage or non-standard materials we’re experienced in managing them with extra care, non-slip access, scaffold or safety harnesses, and low-impact cleaning.
We use both, but key is choosing the right method for the job:
At Ultra we conduct a pre-inspection to decide which combination works best for your roof, balancing effectiveness and safety.

We work across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula. That includes suburbs like Brighton, Frankston, Mount Eliza, Cheltenham, Beaumaris, and many more nearby. If you’re not sure if we cover your area, just ask.
Soft washing uses low pressure and special cleaning solutions to gently remove dirt, mould and grime. It’s perfect for delicate surfaces like render, weatherboards and roofs. Pressure cleaning uses high-pressure water to blast away tough stains, which is ideal for hard surfaces like concrete, brick and pavers.
Yes, we use soft washing techniques that are safe for painted surfaces, render, weatherboards and delicate finishes. We adjust the pressure and use gentle cleaning solutions to avoid any damage while still getting great results.
